Academic Coaching
- Are you a student who struggles academically and falls behind?
- Do you procrastinate with every aspect of school, afraid you might make a mistake?
- Do you want to jump-start your first year in high school or college by creating a detailed study plan and having support staying on track?
- Are you disorganized, overwhelmed, or frustrated with school?
- Do you have learning differences such as ADHD or ASD? Is your anxiety affecting your work?
- Are you a student who requires a boost or some external support?
- Have you fallen behind or developed challenges due to COVID or other external situations?
I know how painful it can be to feel left behind and disorganized, like you’ll never catch up. I saw this happen to students as a teacher, and as a parent of four, I witnessed times when my own kids couldn’t get everything in place and failed. All of my kids were in advanced courses in school, but two of them also struggled with sensory issues, motor skill development, and speech delays. These challenges led me to learn more about executive functioning skills and ways to help students adapt their learning to best fit their individual strengths and need. I know if it was painful for me to watch, it was even more painful for them to go through it. I also know how easy and liberating it felt when things started to click, and we were all seeing the results we always wanted.
My goal is to help stressed out students feel confident and competent in their schoolwork while having a balanced life outside of school. As an academic coach, I support learners of any age, middle school through graduate school, with study tools, skills and strategies that help them effectively learn anything. Academic coaching helps stressed learners improve their school performance, handle tests and assignments with ease, and still have plenty of time to enjoy life.
In my academic coaching practice, I use The Anti-Boring Approach to Powerful Studying. This program covers topics such as time management, organization, note taking, accountability and being 100% ready for every test. What surprises me is that these techniques are not things that I have seen being taught in our schools consistently. Throw in any learning differences, and it’s no wonder students (and their parents) are stressed and struggling.
